Effective Models of the Electroweak Phase Transition
The consecutive integration over the distinct mass scales O(T), O(gT) leads to a hierarchy of effective models for the electroweak phase transition. Different techniques for the realisation of such strategy are reviewed. Advantages and difficulties resulting from the use of reduced models are discussed.
متن کاملEffective charge-spin models for quantum dots.
It is shown that at low densities, quantum dots with few electrons may be mapped onto effective charge-spin models for the low-energy eigenstates. This is justified by defining a lattice model based on a many-electron pocketstate basis in which electrons are localised near their classical ground-state positions. The equivalence to a single-band Hubbard model is then established leading to a cha...
متن کاملVortex critical behavior at the de - confinement phase transition
The de-confinement phase transition in SU(2) Yang-Mills theory is revisited in the vortex picture. Defining the world sheets of the confining vortices by maximal center projection, the percolation properties of the vortex lines in the hypercube consisting of the time axis and two spatial axis are studied. Using the percolation cumulant, the temperature for the percolation transition is seen to ...
متن کاملEffective interactions between parallel-spin electrons in two-dimensional jellium approaching the magnetic phase transition
We evaluate the effective interactions in a fluid of electrons moving in a plane, on the approach to the quantum phase transition from the paramagnetic to the fully spin-polarized phase that has been reported from Quantum Monte Carlo runs. We use the approach of Kukkonen and Overhauser to treat exchange and correlations under close constraints imposed by sum rules. We show that, as the paramagn...
متن کاملPhase transition and crossover behavior of colloidal fluids under confinement
We report a molecular simulation study on the non-monotonic behavior of critical temperature, Tcp, of a confined Yukawa fluid. Close to the adhesive hard sphere (AHS) range of the surface–fluid interaction, Tcp monotonically increases with increasing surface–fluid interaction range. Subsequently, after a certain threshold value, depending on the surface interaction well depth, Tcp decreases mon...
